In a recent interview with Hungary's Hammer World, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna confirmed the band is taking a year off following their recent European tour, which wrapped up in March and April 2025. Erna said, “After this European tour, we’re taking a full year off. I’ll probably start something new during that time—maybe solo music or getting involved in TV and film. I’ve had some offers, so I’ll explore those and see where they go. I might write music for movies, maybe act again. We’ll see.”
He added, “Godsmack has had a resurgence lately—bigger crowds, younger fans, sold-out shows in places like Sofia, Bulgaria. It’s wild. We’ve survived so much, and people are still coming to the shows. Right now, we’re just playing greatest hits shows because we love it, not to promote a new record. We’re back in control of the band, not the labels or management, and that’s the best gift.”
Godsmack recently announced the departure of longtime members Shannon Larkin (drums) and Tony Rombola (guitar), who both decided to retire from touring to live a simpler life. Erna said, “Their departure marks the end of an era but opens the door for new possibilities. Robbie [Merrill, bassist] and I will continue, and we’ll share updates on new members when we have them.”
During the recent tour, Will Hunt (Evanescence) and Sam Koltun (Dorothy) filled in for Larkin and Rombola. Larkin later addressed their exit, saying, “Tony and I quit last year. We’re not sick, we just don’t want to tour anymore. It’s all love—we’re brothers for life with Sully and Robbie, and we wish them the best.”
On September 6, Erna will play a solo concert with special guests as part of the Mohegan Sun Sun Patio Concert Series at Sun Patio at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
