As much of a touchstone as Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff" is by this point, we must remind ourselves at times that someone, somewhere may be engaging with the song for the very first time. Such is the case for Elizabeth Zharoff, who runs the YouTube channel The Charismatic Voice, where she puts her opera training and studies to use while analyzing music of all genres. She's also been helping out with some research into harsh vocals, which has vocalists such as Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer.
On this episode, Zharoff highlights the song's catharsis and curse words, offering up analysis from juicy diphthongs to devil's tritones and everything in between. Her crash course in vocal fry and what she describes as "Valley Girl rap" is something to behold for the more dedicated music fan.
She also plays "hey I know that guy!" with folks like Jonathan Davis, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg, who all appear in the music video. This and her apparent shock at the fervor and rage of the iconic track is a joy to see play out, and her approachable nature helps her academic insight become that much more easily digestible.
