Villain of the Story have unleashed their newest album Convergence: Two Minds as One, their first with new co-vocalist Cody Crook. The Minneapolis outfit have ridden a line between nu metal and metalcore with their recent offerings, including a cover of Breaking Benjamin's "Blow Me Away," but their next single coinciding with the new album is a striking power ballad of sorts.
"Shame" is an emotional song about a neglected child coming to terms with their upbringing. The lyrics are particularly cutting, particularly the closing line: "No one wants to be alone / But you deserve this empty home." This song is raw and comes from deep-seated pain, resonating with those who grew up in broken homes despite the best of intentions. It feels like a child's version of a line sometimes accredited to Jim Carrey: "I want you to eat, but not at my table."
Convergence: Two Minds as One has a powerful message behind it, according to the band:
"The overall theme of the album is that not all stories have a happy ending. In the end there are choices we can make to either become the worst versions of ourselves when things fall apart, or embrace the pain and try to rebuild.”
The album is out now via Out of Line Music. Stay tuned for our review.
