WATCH: Rammstein Rock Pinkpop 1997 With Their Eponymous Song "Rammstein"

This performance was months before the band's breakthrough album 'Sehnsucht.'

While not themselves nu metal, Rammstein and their pioneering brand of Neue Deutsche Härte ran around with bands like Korn in their heyday, but it wasn't all elaborate stage shows and touring for years off a single album. When the Germans played Pinkpop Festival in 1997, they were two years out from their debut album Herzeleid, and just months away from their sophomore effort Sehnsucht, the latter of which would produce the megahit "Du hast."

Even then, the sextet were industrial metal stars, as evidenced by this clip from the aforementioned Pinkpop performance of their self-titled song "Rammstein." With singer Till Lindemann's fire stunt coat, fans today can see the glimmers of what would become in time, but the technology at play was still modest compared to their earth-shattering setup of today.

The band's been on hiatus since their 2022 album Zeit, though Lindemann has enjoyed a resurgence in his solo career as of late.
