Today marks the release of Filipino/British singer-songwriter baebadoobee's new album, Pylon, her fourth full-length release. And that means fans finally have the chance to hear the closing track, "Satellite," which features guest vocals from Deftones frontman Chino Moreno. Fans first caught wind of the collaboration when baebadoobee (born Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus) announced the album back in June. In addition to Moreno, the album includes guest appearances from Paramore's Hayley Williams and Turnstile's Brendan Yates along with songwriting contributions from Pinegrove's Evan Stephens Hall and Title Fight's Shane Moran.
beabadoobee describes Pylon as touching on "classic grunge, midwest emo and ‘90s radio rock, zeroing in on a sound that is both more intense and more direct than any of her previous records," and "Satellite" handily showcases her knack for tying those sounds together into something that feels emotional, off-the-cuff, and yet surprisingly organic.

Even if Moreno weren't on the track, his influence can be heard in the way beabadoobee's voice soars over the mix in the chorus. While it's a bit jarring to hear Moreno in this fuzzed-out emo/indie context, his vocals blend well with beabadoobee's, adding another distinct texture to the song's patchwork vibe. Makes one wonder what other styles he could branch out into.
beabadoobee is currently on a headlining tour in support of Pylon with special guests Wisp and Violet Grohl. Meanwhile, Deftones will be appearing at Sick New World and the seventh annual Dia de los Deftones. Tickets are on sale now.
