Oklahoma noise rockers Chat Pile have just released the second track from In the Earth Again, their collaboration with Texas-born, Oklahoma-based avant-garde musician and performance artist Hayden Pedigo. Back in January Pedigo had this to say:
Spent the past month working on a full length collab record with OKC legends @chatpileband! It was all done in person working in the same room. We are finishing finals overdubs now, but I can confidently say I’ve never heard anything like this album. Apocalyptic western picking slammed through heavy riffs and maybe 90s Chicago post-rock even? Idk, don’t want to give too much away. Not sure when y’all will ever hear this record, but I’m very stoked with what we made….
Fortunately, we now know exactly when we'll hear the record. It comes out October 31st on Computer Students. Continuing in the vein of the album's first single, "Radioactive Dreams," "Demon Time" showcases Chat Pile slowing things down to a glacial pace, pushing the noise back in the mix, and making room for Pedigo's lyrical, reverb-soaked guitar lines.
The music video, seemingly comprised entirely of local found footage, only adds to the track's sense of desolation and hopelessness. As one astute YouTube commentor put it, "this sounds like what a cormac mccarthy [sic] novel feels like." That pretty much sums it up.
