CKY have just released their latest single, "Beware The Heartless," featuring the late Brent Hinds, on lead guitar. The track, from the band's upcoming New Reason to Dream, arrives just shy of a year after Hinds' untimely death on August 20th, 2025. Hinds, known for his 25 years in Mastodon as well as projects like Giraffe Tongue Orchestra and West End Motel, was a longtime friend of the band, having previously collaborated with them on the track "Days of Self Destruction" off their 2017 album The Phoenix.

Guitarist/singer Chad Ginsburg had this to say about the new song:

We were reminded that it was a year since our friend Brent passed away. Brent played a solo on a song we recorded called 'Beware of the Heartless' and I thought, 'why would I leave this on my computer?' Brent took the time to play on it and we loved him, and in honor of his passing, we were too bummed out in the moment to think about that shit, but I want to throw it out there because I don't want to hold onto it forever. I want to let go of it and give it to everyone.

We miss you, Brent.

Hinds' relationship with CKY extended beyond the recording studio. His band, Fiend Without A Face, was set to open for CKY on their UK/Ireland tour last fall. DJ Matt Stocks, Black Gold, False RealityMolly Vulpyne, and Jools opened for the band following Hinds' passing.

Bookended by blistering guitar solos, "Beware Of The Heartless," finds CKY tapping into the spacey prog that distinguished Mastodon's mind-bending excursions. It's bittersweet to hear Hinds effortlessly put his stamp on the hard-rocking track—those fingerpicked banjo-inspired runs are classic Hinds—but it's heartening to know that creative spark shone bright until the very end, leaving behind a body of work that will thrill and inspire for many years to come.

Beginning next month, fans can catch CKY on the road hitting up stops across the East Coast and the Midwest with a special appearance at Aftershock Festival. More dates to come soon. The release date for New Reason To Dream is still TBD. Click here for tickets and info.
