As the gap between System of a Down releases grows to a level not seen since Chinese Democracy, the band's co-vocalist and guitarist Daron Malakian has announced the return of his eponymous side project, Daron Malakian & Scars on Broadway.
Originally a duo with SOAD cohort John Dolmayan, the band now consists of Malakian, Orbel Babayan (rhythm guitar), Niko Chantziantoniou (bass), and Roman Lomtadze (drums). The band released their self-titled first LP in 2008, with "They Say" landing on the setlist for Rock Band as DLC.
"Killing Spree," the opener of the band's forthcoming album Addicted to the Violence, has been unleashed, and it feels like classic SOB. Daron's vocals are all clean and things are more or less straightforward, save for black metal-tinged breaks in the second chorus and final verse. Otherwise, there are elements of hardcore punk and hard rock throughout. Things are less frenetic than, say, any of SOAD's catalog, but Malakian does use his vocals for melody and madness to great effect here.
The track list for Addicted to the Violence, out July 18th, is as follows:
1. Killing Spree
2. Satan Hussein
3. Done Me Wrong
4. The Shame Game
5. Destroy The Power
6. Your Lives Burn
7. Imposter
8. You Destroy You
9. Watch That Girl
10. Addicted To The Violence
