Stephen Carpenter, guitarist for Deftones and Sol Invicto, has reunited with his former Kush bandmate B-Real (Cypress Hill) on a track titled "Lyrical Hammers." The collaboration is part of B-Real and Psycho Les's collaborative album Real Psycho.
The track has some of the classic elements from both B-Real's Cyprus Hill and Prophets Of Rage delivery, while incorporating a bit more of Carpenter's sludge filled riffs to put out a three minute rap/rock Nu Metal influenced track that harkens back to Cyprus Hill's most widely recognized record, 1993's Black Sunday, and it gives fans of both B Real and Carpenter insight into what could've been from the never released Kush songs from the never released album.
Kush was a short-lived rap-metal side project formed in 2000, featuring B-Real, Carpenter, and Fear Factory's then-rhythm section—bassist Christian Olde Wolbers and drummer Raymond Herrera. Unfortunately, the project saw little success due to label-related challenges, leaving most of its material unreleased. In a 2014 Reddit AMA, B Real indicated that the sole reason of the record never being released was due to, "Record labels infighting."
While the question is up in the air if all of the songs from the supergroup will ever reach the light of day, you can't go wrong with some throwback late 90's-early 2000's nu metal style jams presented in "Lyrical Hammers," off of Real Psycho.
