Track Review - Linkin Park // "Two Faced"

This Friday feels like a nu metal holiday, as Linkin Park are set to release their comeback record From Zero with new vocalist Emily Armstrong. Thus far, we’ve gotten the anthemic “The Emptiness Machine,” the Arcane soundtrack feature (and just as anthemic) “Heavy is the Crown,” the emotional “Over Each Other,” and the scream-laden “Casualty.” The band’s latest single and video, though, will immediately grab the attention of longtime fans.

“Two Faced” is quintessential LP, feeling like a track lifted right from the Hybrid Theory sessions. Everything about it is classic Linkin Park, from Mike Shinoda’s rapped verses to Armstrong’s commanding choruses, from the turntable scratches to the detuned guitars. There is absolutely no mistaking this song for anyone else’s, and the breakdown evokes memories of “One Step Closer” as Armstrong wails “STOP YELLING AT ME.”

As much of a statement as the previous three songs have made, “Two Faced” feels like a return to form in the best way possible. This is not Emily Armstrong doing her best Chester Bennington, this is her honoring the former frontman and doing it justice. It’s aggressive, rage-fueled, and damn it, it feels like the early 2000s again in the best way possible.

Currently, the band are on tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil ahead of the album’s release. They will be playing Sick New World and Sonic Temple in the first half of 2025.
