Detroit alt-metal outfit Eva Under Fire are back with "The Words You Say," the new single from their upcoming album Villainous. This new album is the follow-up to their 2022 sophomore album Love, Drugs & Misery. "Villainous," the lead single and title track from the new album, featured guest vocals from In This Moment lead singer/pianist Maria Brink. Producers on Villainous include Carson Slovak (August Burns Red, Polaris), Grant McFarland (Rivers of Nihil, Opal In Sky), and Jon Lundin (Set It Off, Atreyu).

Like so many of the band's songs, frontwoman Eva Marie (real name Amanda Lyberg) draws inspiration from her career as a licensed therapist. Since 2018 Lyberg has been a practicing psychotherapist specializing in trauma work, grief, loss, and addiction recovery. She currently works at a mental health clinic in Detroit.
Lyberg had this to say about the inspiration behind the new track:
This song is about being in a toxic relationship when words are often twisted and used against us. It scrambles our minds and makes reality seem so far away.
