Health Serves up Some SHRED ENVY

The full-length Conflict DLC comes out in three more weeks, on Thursday, December 11th, which means that outside of the release of Conflict DLC there will be only two "Operation Jueves" days left.

Health have served up a banger for this week's Feliz Jueves. The newest track "Shred Envy" was accompanied by a mix of old school and newer AMV techniques. This music video was directed by Morethanlethal, who you may know from other HEALTH music videos.

The video has all members shredding and singing their hearts out in four corners of the screen. As for the visuals, Health has paired the song with the anime Chainsaw Man, an anime following the character Denji as he befriends and makes a pact with a chainsaw dog demon, Pochita, for special powers, including the ability to shapeshift his hands and arms into chainsaws. Denji then signs up to be the guy to stop evil demons from doing harm to Japan.

The video for the song, "Shred Envy" can be summarized as emotionally and tonally heavy. We hear more metal stylings than usual, especially the industrial/guitar breakdown to end the song. The background screams from Leo Ashline of Street Sects really add to the track’s overwhelming sense of existential dread, the feeling of wanting to escape from your past knowing you'll never be able to correct it and just have to move forward:

All the things I did… / It’s not that I don’t care / But I can’t take them back / Wish I’d never been born

Also the lyrics towards the end:

Wouldn’t worry so much / I can’t take it back / Nothing I can do I’m lost / I lost myself / Why didn’t it kill me? / I lost myself

All of this really reinforces a sense of overwhelming guilt, especially the experience of living through something you feel would feel would be the death of you emotionally.
