Last year, Hart Dungeon graduate and two-time world champion Natalya debuted a darker, more aggressive persona in Nattie Neidhart, taking Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name" for her entrance music at multiple events. When this character made it to WWE television in her on-and-off feud with Maxxine Dupri, many speculated if the 'Fed would shell out licensing for the song.
And well... they didn't. But her in-house theme "Bring It" is at least in the spirit of the classic anthem of the iconoclast. def rebel's got a host of issues, namely original themes being highly unidentifiable, and the only thing saving them here is the pick slide sting in the intro, and that's something that was used many moons ago by her uncle Bret Hart's theme.
Especially given the revenue that WWE puts up in a year, as well as their recent licensing of tracks by artists like Poppy and Linkin Park for major pay-per-views, why did they stop short with RATM?
I mean... given WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque's connections to the current US administration, I think we know why they stopped short, but even then, with the story they're telling with their WWE Championship feud going into WrestleMania, that of high ticket prices and low ticket sales, why the hell not? Furthermore, another RATM track, "Bulls On Parade," was the direct inspiration for "I Won't Do What You Tell Me," the theme song of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and by extension the Disturbed update "Glass Shatters."
In any case, check out the track below, as it's been released to streaming today (April 13th).
