Say what you want about Jimmy Kimmel, the man has had on some good and interesting heavy acts over the years. In 2022, Kimmel had breakout hardcore punk band Turnstile deliver "Mystery," on air as well as three other songs on Kimmel's "Off Air Performances," for a web exclusive. In 2015, legacy metal act Lamb Of God took to the Kimmel stage to perform, "512" and "Still Echoes" while being listed as a "Christian heavy metal band," via cable outlets to much amusement. Other heavier or hard rock acts that have performed in the past include Rammstein, Linkin Park, Asking Alexandria, Thrice, and A Day To Remember just to name a few.
So to see Knocked Loose get the call to go on stage makes sense, while definitely still being the heaviest band to date on the show. To add even more to that the event saw Poppy featured alongside Knocked Loose for their onslaught of a single, "Suffocate," off of the band's latest record, You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To released back in May. Before the performance, Knocked Loose invited fans via social media to, "come mosh on TV," to "the heaviest band on live television," and man, did they deliver. The five-song set consisted of "Suffocate," "Don't Reach For Me," "Moss Covers All," "Take Me Home," and "Sit & Mourn." Rain pummeled the crowd at the Kimmel outdoor venue, and that mixed with the heavy performance and intimidating pyrotechnics brought the heavy scene unabashedly to national television.
"Suffocate," has been nominated for the Best Metal Performance" for the 2025 Grammy Awards, going up against Metallica, Judas Priest, Spiritbox, and Gojira.
