The original Slipknot tribal "S" has been found. It seems today we've found the first Slipknot logo from the late Joey Jordison's personal collection of art. The recently-recovered sketch seems to be on brown paper and looks very similar to the current Slipknot logo, albeit with different spacing and in black ink. There are more original sketches from Joey's collection that should be released soon.
Speaking all the way back in 2017 to Kerrang, Jordison recalled,
“I drew that logo on my dad’s old desk in the house I grew up in. I had this little piece of paper and drew it with pen and ink. It stained the desk! I took it to band practice and they loved it. The next thing you know, almost half of the band got it tattooed – this was before we got signed.”.... "I have tons of folders of sketches, logos of pretty much any band I’ve been in. I drew the Slipknot logo and the tribal ‘S’, the Murderdolls logo, Scar the Martyr. I designed the Vimic logo. I’d love to put out a book someday of all of my sketches."
Maybe one day we will see all of Joey Jordison's art in a gallery and/or online, but for now the original logo is incredible.
