The launch of Marathon, Bungie's new shooter, is here. And with it comes a beautiful cinematic directed by Harmony Korine and Sam Goldwater, showing a Triage, one of the games runner shells (characters with unique abilities) at the forefront, navigating the treacherous world of Tau Ceti IV and the USS Marathon through countless deaths. The game heavily emphasizes that "death is the first step", and hell, even the track itself is a nod to it.
Marathon's soundtrack was composed by Ryan Lott of Son Lux, and for the cinematic, he teamed with the other two members for music, and grabbed Poppy to throw down some lyrics and vocals. The result is much more electronic than than Poppy's normal metal fare, but not entirely new for her, tracks like Crystallized showcase her sound being fluid, shifting to hyperpop.
Marathon releases today, March 5th, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
