Rob Zombie's debut feature film House of 1000 Corpses is the first of his Firefly trilogy, the horror world's introduction to Captain Spaulding, and a love letter to grindhouse cinema. While the film is getting a behind-the-scenes book from Insight Editions this fall, those who prefer their collectibles oddly charming and cute can soon partake in the Funko figurines of a few of the iconic characters.
The man himself posted a sneak preview of the POP! Vinyl figures to his Instagram, though he did not give a timeline for their release. The image was taken from the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, NV, which took place from May 20-22 this year.
In the film, Captain Spaulding is played by the late Sid Haig, Baby Firefly is portrayed by Rob's wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Otis Driftwood is played by horror legend Bill Moseley. The idea came to Zombie from a design he was working on for a haunted house, though a potential NC-17 rating led to Universal Studios shelving the film. Zombie re-acquired the rights, sold it to Lionsgate, and the rest is horror history.
Divisive though they may be, Funko as a brand is prolific, and these cult favorite characters getting the rub from the figurine titans is no small feat. Now if only we can get something similar for The Haunted World of El Superbeasto....
