The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner has reported that Seth Binzer, aka Shify Shellshock of Crazy Town, as passed away at the age of 49. This is a breaking story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
The nu-metal frontman rose to prominence as the lead singer of Crazy Town whose 2000 single "Butterfly" was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a success in many other parts of the globe. He also appeared on Paul Oakenfold's 2002 hit "Starry Eyed Surprise."
In recent years the frontman has become more known for his struggles with drug addiction and run ins with the law.
He leaves behind three children.
Update 6/26: Binzer's rep Howie Hubberman has confirmed to Rolling Stone that Binzer died of an accidental overdose:
“Seth has been struggling with substance abuse problems for quite some time. Seth was not happy with the daily struggle that’s called life. Some people cope in many different ways. It’s unfortunate we lose so many people to addiction and accessibility to harmful drugs. Shifty was a real-life tragedy. Too fast, too hard, too soon.”
