It’s been two weeks since Spiritbox dropped their second LP Tsunami Sea, and the Canadian alt-metal powerhouses are seeing the fruits of their labor. With anchoring singles such as the confrontational “Soft Spine” and the endlessly melodic “Perfect Soul,” the record is an early album of the year contender.
The sales figures and metrics are reflecting such claims, as reported by Lambgoat. In its first week out, Tsunami Sea has sold around 22,000 units, including around 16,000 pure album sales, with 10,000 of those being vinyl. This is roughly on par with the band’s previous full-length Eternal Blue, which saw around 23,000 units in its first week, with 19,000 of those being pure album sales.
These numbers translate to some substantial chart presence, as Billboard has listed the album at number 26 on the Billboard 200, as well as number 4 on the Top Album Sales chart, number 3 in the Top Vinyl Sales chart, and number one on the Hard Rock Albums chart.
In terms of the Billboard 200 chart, Tsunami Sea is the only new release in the metal world to exist on this chart. All other hard rock or metal releases listed are either classic albums, such as Metallica’s Black Album or System of a Down’s Toxicity, or greatest hits compilations from acts such as Nickelback and Linkin Park.
