It's not very often on the Nu Metal Agenda that we've talked about anything comedic, outside of Psychostick. However, when Kyle Gordon announced a one-off sketch with his nu metal character was getting a song, I was intrigued. His eurodance / comedic dance track "Planet of the Bass" was successful. So why wouldn't I enjoy this one? Intrigued, I gave the song "Crawl to Me" from his second compilation. Kyle Gordon is Wonderful, a chance.
I'm going to be frank with you... I'm mixed on the new track.
First the positives. It's wonderful in instrumentation. The first verse had me laughing and singing along, and the chorus is unironically catchy. It didn't rely on too many many tropes in the beginning of the song. The music video is also wonderfully crafted.
As for the negatives... for me, the joke portion of the song ran its course by the second verse. The line "suck the dick, drink the piss" got stuck in my head and not in a fun way. Gordon's vocal delivery is great, but his harsh vocals left me feeling disappointed. I get that this is a comedic song, but since this was clearly made from love(?) I wish he had hired a singer for this track. There would be so many people willing to do this type of comedic song, and there are hundreds of vocalists for hire, both famous and unknown.
