Though there are countless live rips of Deftones live sets all over YouTube, every so often, we are blessed with a one that reminds of just how solid Deftones is as a live act.
Last week, a never-before-seen live video of their performance at Area4 Festival in North Rhine-Westphalia, Denmark surfaced on YouTube, and is hands down one of the most quality live sets from the early 2010s. Taken from their show on August 20th, 2011, the band is still riding high off the release of Diamond Eyes the previous year, with Sergio Vega still a relatively new addition to the band following Chi Cheng's tragic accident in 2008.
I’ve always believed that the 2010s Deftones have some of the best performances the band has ever showcased, showing a level of maturity and tightness that comes with hitting the 20-year mark in the bands career. It's also my favorite era of Chino Moreno, as his outfit in this video is something I replicated excessively in high school.
The setlist sees a killer performance of "Elite," as well as a closer of "7 Words" with a surprise Katy Perry spin to it.
