Dallas-based nu-gaze band Bleed, featuring former and current members of Narrow Head, have finally unveiled their new single, “Marathon,” from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, due out May 2nd via 20 Buck Spin. The track is accompanied by a music video, directed and edited by Colt Matheson.
"Marathon" serves as a nice offering for Deftones fans who prefer Deftones as a dreamier, screamier version of Helmet. While this isn’t to undermine the song’s quality, it undeniably carries the sonic fingerprints of an unreleased track from the Somebody’s Closer EP era, which was released in 2021. As always, the vocals of singer Ryan Hughes evoke the sensation of a warning whispered in a dream, drifting in and out of a dense, textured wall of distorted guitars. Sonically, Bleed isn’t exactly venturing into unexplored territory here—but do they really have to? Why would musical evolution be necessary when the formula still resonates? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
As for the new album, here's a small take from Bleed's Bandcamp description:
"Bleed’s self-titled LP maintains the melodic heaviness and tight song structures of the EP, while diving headfirst into the oceanic haze, pushing their sound into territory more immersive, relentless and hypnotically lush."
