Lions At The Gate, the hard-rock group featuring ex-Ill Niño members Cristian Machado, Diego Verduzco, and Ahrue Luster, have released a new single titled “Drain” ahead of their August 25th debut record The Excuses We Cannot Make. They’ll also be supporting Nita Strauss on The Summer Storm North American Tour starting June 13th in Nashville, Tennessee.
The band, formed in 2021, has thus far released six singles; their first being “Not Even Human” back in June of 2021. Lions At The Gate have shown a sound that spans everything from alt-rock to metalcore, even harkening back to their nu metal roots with their debut “Not Even Human.” Their fourth single “Find My Way” even managed to net Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer.
The album, according to vocalist Cristian Machado, was “deeply personal” to him, and “spoke a lot about the personal struggle that [he] was going through at the time,” mentioning the break up with his previous band, his divorce, and subsequent custody battle.
The song itself seems to take inspiration from more alternative acts such as Breaking Benjamin, as Machado uses a much deeper vocal range than his usual style as well as a poppier sound, with “Drain” being about “time and regret” he explains.
