Loathe Bare Their "Fangs" On Bold New Single

This R&B-infused new track shows why the British metalcore alchemists continue to be on the cutting edge of heavy music.

British metalcore alchemists Loathe just dropped "Fangs," the newest single from their upcoming album A Stranger To You, which arrives July 17th via SharpTone Records. This is the third single from the album, following "Revenant" and 2025's "Gifted Every Strength." Once again, the band show why they continue to be on the cutting edge of modern heavy music.

Just over a year into this new era of Loathe, "Fangs" might be their boldest offering yet. Where "Gifted Every Strength" incorporated progressive and post-rock elements into the band's sound and "Revenant" offered deceptively sophisticated chaos, "Fangs" sees the band further expanding the sound to include strong R&B influences. Built on deep, grooving bass and entirely clean vocals and harmonies from lead singer Kadeem France, guitarist Erik Bickerstaffe, and bassist Feisal El-Khazragi, the track has real crossover potential.

Weighed down by the state of it / I’m reminded how to savour it / Lately nothing matters much to me / “Can’t say I don’t mind”

The mood is dark and sexy, punctuated by heavy, angular riffing that recalls Royal Blood at their most aggressive. The comparison to Royal Blood's bass-forward approach is particularly apt: the music video shows Bickerstaffe rocking a double-neck guitar/bass combo. This track gets so heavy the band literally needed a second bass guitar part. Despite the relatively brisk length (3:25 in the music video; 4:10 on the album), the dynamic track feels bigger than the sum of its parts, which even include a jazzy, acoustic break in the back half. More and more it's looking like, true to their word, this new Loathe record might be worth the wait.

In either case, fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch Loathe onstage in the coming months. The band will appear at several festivals, including Outbreak, Lollapalooza, and Louder Than Life. Tomorrow, June 25th, the band will perform their final show supporting Atlanta prog-metal titans Mastodon on their world tour. Starting in July, the band will hit the road stateside with All Under Heaven, followed by two shows with indie post-punk veterans Interpol. In September, the band will embark on the A Stranger To You North America Tour. Joining them will be Boston grungegazers Fleshwater and Dearborn noise rockers Prostitute.
