Deftones' 'private music.' Debuts At Number 5 On The Billboard 200

It's their best first week of sales to date.

Deftones are celebrating the release of their tenth studio album private music., and with it has come a resurgence in their popularity, "baddiecore" allegations be damned. Some three decades after their debut LP, the band have seen their best sales week of their careers, resulting in their making number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The numbers are in, and private music. has scored 87,000 equivalent unit sales, with 66,000 of those being from full album sales. This blows their previous effort Ohms out of the water, as it did 49,000 album units in its first week, with 43,000 of those being full album sales. That said, it also debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Some would say that nu metal is back, but we would argue it never went away, and Deftones landing so highly on an industry standard like the Billboard 200 is a testament to that.
