While fans are still in the dark about Sid Wilson's status as a member of the hugely influential multi-Platinum Grammy-winning nu metal juggernaut Slipknot, the turntablist and DJ took to social media yesterday to finally break his silence.
Just... not in the way fans probably wanted.
Wilson (aka SID, aka DJ Starscream) posted for the first time to Instagram since rumors began circulating on the interwebs, but he made no mention of his alleged firing or the band at all. Instead, he posted about the website for his new merch shop. The brief post contained video of the website's homepage and a clip of Slay Squad's new single "MOS (Full Band)" with the following:

Simple and to the point. Regardless of what's going on with Wilson and Slipknot, the man's still got bills to pay. We love capitalism, don't we, folks?
As of this writing, neither Wilson nor the band have released any official statements. Since the post, Wilson's only other social media activity has been a picture of him taken with legendary film composer and Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman with the theme from Beetlejuice playing over top in his Instagram Stories. Slipknot guitarist Jim Root waded into the morass with an Instagram Story saying
Don't believe everything you read. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there's more information.
While Root's message neither confirm nor denies Wilson's firing, fans have been quick to point out the latter's Instagram profile lists him as "SID/DJ Starscream/Slipknot" and his bio, which tags the band, says, simply "Slipknot gang since 1997." Stacy Thompson, wife of Slipknot guitarist Mick Thompson, was similarly dismissive of the TMZ-sourced rumors, even throwing in a John Hughes reference.
For anyone curious, the pertinent lyrics in the featured Slay Squad snippet go something like this:
Moment of silence for them / Moment of- moment of silence for them / Resorting to violence again / Feel like resorting to violence again / You're awfully quiet my friend / Don't make us start up a riot, you bitch! / Moment of silence for them / Imma get rich without trying again
Some of the above could apply to Wilson leaving the band, his new merch shop, or both. The lyrics are just non-specific enough—and the track bangs just hard enough—that this might all be a coincidence. We'll continue to monitor this situation as it develops. Fortunately (?), Slipknot have no plans to tour or record in the immediate future. Still, fans can catch Slay Squad on select dates with Ho99o9 and N8NOFACE on the upcoming Sincerely__The Void, North American Tour, and at Vans Warped Tour in Orlando.
