Poppy, Sam Carter and Jinjer's Tatiana Shmayluk Join Spiritbox at Louder Than Life

It isn't often bands get to showcase a bunch of cool guests, whether on record or in a live-only experience, so having all three of these guests in the same place for LTL was clearly something special.

Spiritbox’s weekend set at Kentucky’s Louder Than Life festival was poised to be a standout, with the band riding the momentum of their intense recent single “Soft Spine”, among other achievements. However, the Canadian group raised the bar in Louisville by bringing a powerhouse lineup of guest vocalists on-stage, including Poppy and Jinjer’s Tatiana Shmayluk, to share screaming duties.

During their September 29th performance at Highland Festival Grounds, Spiritbox launched into an eight-song set, starting with three tracks from last year’s The Fear of Fear EP as expected. But when they hit “Soft Spine,” they invited Poppy — who was also performing at LTL — to join vocalist Courtney LaPlante for some intense, aggressive vocals, which Poppy has showcased more and more on feature appearances of late (Bad Omens' "V.A.N." and Knocked Loose's "Suffocate") along with her own genre-bending 2024 work.

Following that, the collaboration-filled show continued with Architects’ Sam Carter joining for “Yellowjacket,” the track he originally featured on from Spiritbox’s Eternal Blue album, and then Jinjer’s Tatiana Shmayluk joined in the next song, lending her growl to “Circle With Me.” From the fan-shared videos and clips online, the feature-heavy set was quite the treat.
