Hot off the tail of the double release of singles "Wave" and "Where The Flowers Never Grow", The Devil Wears Prada is back with a new tune to hold us over until Flowers comes out on November 14th. "So Low" is the fifth and, most likely, final single to be released off of the album. The band dropped the track on September 11th, along with an accompanying music video with Walker Clough returning as director.
The track bears great similarity to previously released single "Ritual" in structure and vibe, but splits off lyrically into something that feels more emotionally charged. The song dives once again into themes of self-destruction ("I only feel alive when I lose control"), and a longing to live and love ("The thrill of the chase is numb / I don't know how to love").
The accompanying video is much more standard compared to That Same Place Where The Flowers Never Grow, seeing as how it's just a music video and not a short film, but that doesn't mean it's poorly shot or directed either. Clough has a great eye, and once again the video sports some great visuals with clean color grading. It shows the two singers out on the streets of what appears to be a European town, with tour footage and behind the scenes bits cut throughout.
Take a look below:
Over a quarter of the album has been released as singles so far, and they've all stuck with me in some way or another, with "Wave" hitting me way more than I thought it would. The band is really good at writing emotional hooks and I only hope they keep up this energy in the remaining tracks, because I've really enjoyed the gut-punch lyricism found throughout.
Five singles is enough though, guys. We don't need any more.
