On Wednesday's episode (Nov. 26th) of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, viewers on set and at home were treated to a serene performance of “Eternal Love”, the debut single from collaborative project AVTT/PTTN.
For those not up to speed, the trio is composed of Grammy award-winning folk artists The Avett Brothers and the legendary Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, etc). The trio released their debut self titled album on the 14th, followed up by a series of live performances, one of which was at the Grammy Museum with an interview conducted by Eric Andre.
But back to The Tonight Show. The performance is fantastic and simply sweet, and it’s great seeing Patton doing something that some of his fans might consider wildly different. The Avett Brothers sound downright heavenly, and the live band really brightens things up too. I’ve always believed a live rendition can really change how a song feels to the listener and I gotta say, since this performance, that chorus has stuck with me real good.
