Tom Morello Shreds His Way Through Chappell Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!" During Rehearsal

Tom Morello is easily one of the most influential guitar players in the world, especially when it comes to nu metal. His blend of hard rock, funk, and hip-hop broke new ground for what six strings can do, from his blistering fretwork with Rage Against the Machine, to his folk alter ego The Nightwatchman, to making his guitars scream for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band for several years.

A bonafide guitar hero like Morello needs plenty of practice to keep things sharp, and one technique he uses for rehearsal is to turn on the radio and play along with whatever is on, improvising his own passages, solos, and licks along the way. In a recent video uploaded to his social media pages, Morello was playing his Telecaster along to Chappell Roan’s megahit “Good Luck, Babe!” The minute-long clip is full of wah-wah pedal shenanigans and a soulful interpretation of the source material, as he plays through the second verse and second chorus in the style that only The Nightwatchman himself can.

Not too shabby for the man Rolling Stone called number 18 of the 50 most influential guitarists of all time in a recent poll.
