Artificial Intelligence has been met by the music community with very polarizing responses. On one hand, artists like M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold and pop artist Grimes have embraced it, while on the other, Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour has blasted the use of AI. In an interview with Kerrang! Radio, he says:
“I don’t care about any of that crap, dude, to be honest. I don’t know what people are trying to prove. Are they trying to prove that computers can do things just as good as people? Because if so, then what’s the point?”
A massive concern for the use of AI is the fear of replacing human talent. Corey had previously explained his disdain for AI in a Loudwire Nights Interview; “I don’t know what it is about human beings - we keep opening Pandora's box for God’s sake. It’s scary, dude.”
He also gave his thoughts on the Chester Bennington cover of “Snuff” to which Corey also criticized, “People have really got in the habit of stepping on graves and they don’t care. That’s what bothers me the most, this true apathy for anything other than their own needs”
The discourse over AI’s usage is still in its infant stages and is sparking up some interesting talking points between those in support and those in opposition to it.
